What We Do
Teaching young people about sexual exploitation aims to:
Aims/Outcomes:
- Raise their awareness of the dangers of unhealthy and exploitative relationships
- Be less likely to become involved in inappropriate or coercive relationships and sexual activity
- Increase their understanding of their rights to be protected from all forms of sexual exploitation and abuse
- Increased confidence to report exploitation and abuse
- Help them understand how unwanted pressure to have sex can lead to more dangerous and exploitative situations
- Less likely to become sexually active before they are ready and before they can enjoy or take responsibility for themselves or their partners
- Increase their awareness of risks in their immediate physical and virtual online environments and explore consequences of risk-taking
- Aware of the risks of sexual offences, unwanted pregnancies, STI’s and how they can avoid them
- Increase their confidence and skills to negotiate pressures and enjoy safe and healthy relationships
- Prepared for and have realistic expectations of sexual relationships
- Skills to communicate and negotiate with partners on topics such as contraceptive useLess likely to express regret and emotional distress
- Raise their awareness of local support agencies and how to get help
- Aware of the services and help available to them to deal with sexual health issues, drugs and alcohol, etc
The workshops are four hours in total. Common delivery formats in schools:
• Lesson 1 and 2- 2 hours for the boys/2 hours for the girls.
• Lessons 1 to 4- 4 hours for the girls/4 hours for the boys.
• Lesson 1 to 4 for up to 30 targeted student’s mixed or single sex.
• Lesson 1 presented to up to 6 form groups.
• Four hours mentoring targeted students
We are also provide workshops for professionals on how to spot and understand sexual bullying, the motiviations and consequences.
The 4-hour workshops were devised by TeenBoundariesUK founder Leonie Hodge and Deborah Sheppard (advisor) and Elizabeth Biggs (Team leader) from the Mental Health & Emotional Well Being department of Hertfordshire County Council. Scenarios were devised with Mark Scott from the Lambeth Academy School in South- London based on young people experiences.
